What Are the Sections of the Mock Exam?

Posted on: September 12, 2017

At Illinois Plumbing Consultants, our goal is to prepare new plumbing professionals well for the licensure process. To make this easier, we offer a plumbing mock exam program. The Illinois Plumbing Practice Exam is designed to mirror the state licensure exam as closely as possible. It contains 50 multiple choice questions, and those questions are divided into five distinct sections. As you’re preparing for the exam, it will be critical to have a clear understanding of those sections. Here’s what you can expect to see on the practice exam.

Section 1 – Drawing

Blueprint drawing is a critical part of success as a plumber. This section will cover drawing and ensure that you are well versed in drawing and using blueprints. Isometric (3D) and scale drawing may also be covered.

Section 2 – Practical

The practical section will test your abilities to make decisions in situations you might face in the plumbing work world. This section will cover code requirements, plumbing practice, theory and safety as well. Blueprint reading and piping assembly may also be included in this section.

Section 3- PVC

PVC work is an essential part of the modern plumber’s job. Be prepared to show your skill and knowledge in this field. The PVC questions, like the other parts of the exam, may be knowledge or skill based.

Section 4 – Cast Iron

Many homes in Illinois have cast iron pipes instead of PVC. You will need to be skilled in working with cast iron just like you need to be skilled in working with PVC. Have a thorough understanding of the benefits of cast iron, the times when you may find it, and the right way to handle this particular material before taking the test.

Section 5 – Copper

Finally, copper pipe is still an important player in the Illinois plumbing marketplace, so know how to work with it. Be able to show your skill in this as with PVC and cast iron.

As you can see, the mock test is quite comprehensive. That’s why we recommend waiting until you are in your third or fourth year of your apprenticeship before taking the exam. You can also ensure that you’re well prepared by enrolling in one of our plumbing licensure prep training programs. If you are ready, IPC is ready to help you. Register for your mock exam today, and see how well prepared you are for the real licensure test.
